Greater Bucky Open - September 22, 2002
2002's GBO was quite the outing and thank you to all who supported such a fun weekend! We had a 126 golfers compared to last year's 56 and we were able to donate $3000 for the UWCH and the (Bucky) Badger Fund! Plus, unlike the last two years, we didn't have snow on the day of the event! A special thank you to the out of town participants including a huge crew of fellow DUs, the DeVillers family and a few CA friends who made the trek to God's country. Also, thank you to all of the volunteers for making the registration go smoothly and to the University Ridge who was extremely helpful in making this event a success.
Congratulations to the winning team of Rick Fortmann, David Henning, Jim Kleinschmidt, Bill Hoffart! This was their first GBO outing and it better not be their last! Check out how they are enjoying their one year tour with the GBO trophy!
Other trophy winners: Howard Anunson stuck a 6 iron on #3 and won the Closest to the Cow (Howard went home with an actual blow up Cow that was tied to the flagstick--lucky guy). Matt Habermehl 'won' the shortest drive on #6...Matt was in my group and I witnessed him crush the ball with his driver 200 yards up in the air, yet it only went 50 yards down the fairway(he's from Illinois so he was happy to win anything). Brian Haroldson ripped a drive on #9 to win longest drive. Mark Rewey somehow won the Closest to the Cow on #12. Dirk Todd cut the corner and won longest drive on #18. Most Beers Consumed went to Dean Nolden and Worst Shot of the Day went to Larry Horsfall who's ball hit a rock then a tree and then whizzed by his ear ending up behind him. Congratulations to all of the winners!
UW Children's Hospital
The GBO staff visited the UWCH along with 5 UW football players, Bucky and 2 police officers who brought tons of toys for the children. Each year the UWCH visit ends up being the highlight of the weekend and this year was no different. I hope you can tell by the pictures that we truly make a difference to some of the children and families. Thank you again for your support!

We enjoyed yet another festive Friday night during the GBO weekend eating brats, drinking boots of beer and dancing to some good Wisconsin polka music at the Essen Haus. Plus, thanks to our good friend Rbay from California, we all started out the night with 5 boots sitting on the table as he phoned in an order ahead of time.
