Run by 100% volunteers, the Greater Bucky Open is a fundraiser golf outing and charity concert organized to financially support, comfort and entertain patients and families at the UW Health's American Family Children's Hospital along with showing appreciation to Bucky Badger student mascots. The GBO is the longest running charity event supporting the children’s hospital!
In addition to supporting pediatric cancer research and the family food program, we are also funding the third comfort therapy dog to be near the children during treatments. Meet GBO Archie!
Our events are always held during the week of a home UW football weekend in the fall.
Thursday we host the GBO Family FunFest at the UW Health's American Family Children's Hospital. Bucky and volunteers play games with patients and families. We give away donated toys and bring general good cheer to the children.
Friday, we host the Greater Bucky Open golf outing. The golf outing itself is not your ordinary event as we have many prizes and contests for every range of golfer including trophies for worst shot of the day, shortest drive, best golf story, closest to the cow shots, and 1st place trophies for the top 3 teams. The outing ends with a buffet, awards, and a live and silent auction.
Friday night, we put on a GBO Charity Concert at Red Rock Saloon on campus featuring the Best of Madison awarded band, MADISON COUNTY! We also recruit celebrities to be bartenders, have free bull rides, and put on a few 50/50 raffles.
Saturday, we have a GBO Tailgate and head to the football game to cheer on the Badgers.
