The Greater Bucky Open, Inc. is a non-profit corporation & your generous donations benefitting 2 worthwhile causes are tax deductible. We're an all volunteer organization and due to our extremely low operating expenses, every sponsorship dollar directly benefits our charitable mission with roughly 90% supporting pediatric cancer research, the CHAMPS hospital facillity dog #3, the patient and family food program, and family lounge at the American Family Children's Hospital along with 10% supporting the Bucky Badger student mascot scholarship program.

UW Health American Family Children's Hospital

The American Family Children's Hospital opened in August 2008. With another $50,000 commitment, we secured a permanent Greater Bucky Open Family Lounge located in the Hematology/Oncology unit. This amazing room includes computers, a big TV, coffee maker, drink machine and a few couches for patients and their families to hang out in. We are also proudly supporting the funding for their food program which provides meals & snacks for families allowing them to stay with their child during their stay. In addition we provide critical support to the pediatric cancer research team led by Dr. Christian Capitini. His team provides an innovative anti-cancer therapy called CAR T, which involves genetically engineering your body’s killer cells to fight cancer. With GBO support, new types of CAR T have moved from the laboratory to clinical trials for both children and young adults with cancer.

BUCKINGHAM U. BADGER

Since 1949, Bucky has donated endless hours of time and energy entertaining everybody from local kindergarten classes to university functions to 80,000 screaming football fans at Camp Randall. A small portion of the proceeds goes towards Bucky Badger student scholarships and other miscellaneous Bucky related expenses managed by the UW Athletic Department.
